Jakarta Strengthens Synergy in Facing Rainy Season Amid Covid

The Jakarta administration holds a Rehearsal for Anticipation of Rainy Season during Covid-19 Pandemic, at Bappeda Pattern Room, Jakarta City Hall, on Wednesday (11/17). It is done in the context of resource preparedness and to increase synergy in disaster management during rainy season.

Jakarta Vice Governor, Ahmad Riza Patria who was also present at the event hoped that it could train the city's response with support from national army, police, community and disaster activists in dealing with worst scenario in facing rainy season during pandemic in the capital city.

"Hence, all the potential of existing resources is empowered to the maximum, both in the form of human resources and equipment. Thus it can be used quickly, precisely, and accurately when facing floods. I hope this rehearsal is our alert with 3 keywords, namely SIAGA, TANGGAP, GALANG while still implementing health protocols," he explained, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

As is known, the administration continues to make various efforts to anticipate floods, including:

• Dredging rivers, reservoirs, lakes, and cleaning environmental ditches to increase water capacity

• Prepare facilities and infrastructure for flood management

• Deploy personnel to move quickly when it rains hard

• Conduct socialization to the community to update weather forecast information and act swiftly if there is an early flood warning

"There are two priorities for us and our collaborators in disaster management, like ensuring there are no casualties with good mitigation; as well as recovery or acceleration of restoring conditions back to normal, thus all those affected can live a normal life well. That's why, there must be multi-stakeholder synergy and pentahelix collaboration between government, army-police, community, business world, academia, and mass media, so disaster management can be carried out optimally," he explained.

At the same time, he also expressed his appreciation to all parties who have been involved in handling disasters in the capital city. "Thank you for your service as a humanitarian fighter so far. Spread kindness and assistance to communities affected by floods during Covid-19, and continue to reduce the risk of disasters that may arise in the future," he uttered.

As for the information, the rehearsal for anticipation of rainy season during Covid-19 is a series of activities from the preparation ceremony, which was held on October 13 in Monas area, Central Jakarta. It was held in five regions and was carried out at provincial, administrative and sub-district levels; while the field rehearsal is at urban village level.
